Retaining Wall and Roadway Construction


Summary
Metro is improving traffic flow and safety on the I-105 by converting the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes into two ExpressLanes in each direction. Major construction for Segment 1—from Sepulveda Boulevard to Central Avenue—began in early 2025 and is expected to continue for approximately three years.
As part of these improvements, crews will construct retaining walls and new roadway pavement on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway to support the future ExpressLanes.

Construction Location

  • Westbound I-105: Between W 116th St and W 118th St

  • Eastbound I-105: Between Prairie Ave and W 118th St

Construction Schedule (Subject to change)

  • Work began June 2025 and is anticipated to continue through fall 2026

  • Daytime work hours: 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weekdays

  • Nighttime work may occur intermittently between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. for safety and access

What to Expect

  • Crews will access the work zone from the freeway

  • Most activities will take place behind concrete barriers (k-rail)

  • Work will include excavation, grading, and construction of structural elements

  • Landscaping and trees removed during construction will be restored after project completion
