I-105 over Hoover St: Underpass Reconstruction

Summary: Metro has a plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105, which includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction on the I-105. Major construction for the first phase of the project, Segment 1 between Sepulveda Bl and Central Av, started in early 2025 and is anticipated to continue for approximately three years.

As part of these improvements, work crews will perform work to reconstruct the Hoover St underpass along the corridor to support roadway pavement construction for the new ExpressLanes on the freeway.

Location:
I-105 over Hoover St

Anticipated Construction Timeline: Schedule is subject to change.
  • Construction at all locations is expected to begin in August and is anticipated to be complete by summer 2026.
  • Daytime work (6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) is anticipated at the underpass location and will include removal of the existing freeway bridge barriers, excavation, pile drilling, bridge wall demolition, and bridge foundation and structure work activities.
  • Intermittent nighttime work (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) will also be required to perform certain work activities. Occasional nighttime full streets closures will take place under these underpasses for certain overhead construction activities such as bridge barrier removal, drilling, and bridge support installation and removal.
What to Expect:
  • Traffic reconfigurations will be implemented on the streets at these bridge locations, which entails lane shifts and adjustments to lane widths.
  • Occasional nighttime full street closures will take place under these bridges for certain work activities.
  • Occasional sidewalk closures at these bridges may be necessary, pedestrians will be alerted with advance signage and safely rerouted. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.
  • Crews will access the work zones from the freeway, local streets, and areas behind k-rail (concrete barriers).
Noteworthy:
  • Work activity is subject to change based on weather conditions.
  • Construction is dynamic and schedules are subject to change.
