Holly St and Arroyo Parkway: Utility Exploration

Summary:

The North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project is part of Metro’s plan to improve mobility across the region. This new zero-emission BRT service will connect North Hollywood and Eagle Rock in the City of Los Angeles with the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena—expanding access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations.

Starting in late July 2025, crews will begin preliminary work in Pasadena to prepare the roadway for construction. This includes potholing, identifying underground utilities beneath the street.

Schedule:

Week of July 28, 2025, for approximately one week
Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location Details:

Holly St

Westbound: Lane reduction between Marengo Ave and Arroyo Pkwy. Lane remains open.
Eastbound: Full directional closure between Raymond Ave and Marengo Ave. A flagger will be onsite to guide traffic.
Detour: Motorists may travel south on Raymond Ave, turn left on Colorado Blvd, then travel north on Marengo Ave to return to Holly St.

Arroyo Pkwy

Right turns will be maintained exiting Holly Street Village Apartments onto Holly St.
Right turn lane onto Holly St will be closed.
Detour: Motorists may travel west on Holly St, turn right on Raymond Ave, then right on Walnut St to access Marengo Ave.

What to Expect:

Potholing involves boring into the roadway or sidewalk to locate underground utilities. The holes are then refilled. Expect noise and minimal vibration.
Traffic control officers, flaggers, and signage will help guide motorists and pedestrians safely.
One traffic lane will always remain open, except during the eastbound Holly St closure, which may occur for up to three days.
Work will not take place in all areas at the same time. Lanes will reopen at the end of each workday.
Access to sidewalks, crosswalks, and nearby businesses will be maintained.
Temporary parking restrictions will be posted in the immediate work area.
