Pilot Gate Tech Testing at Hayvenhurst Av and Metro G Line Busway Crossing


Metro’s contractor, Valley Transit Partners (VTP) will test pilot railroad-style gate technology at the Metro G Line Busway crossing at Hayvenhurst Av, which serves as a pedestrian entrance to Lake Balboa Park. For public safety, the crossing will be temporarily closed to pedestrians and cyclists. Detour signage will be in place to guide pedestrians and cyclists to alternative park entrances at Balboa Av and Woodley Av. 

Pilot Gate Technology Testing (concluded): 

August 1, 2025 to early November 2025

NEW: Removal of Pilot Gate Technology: 

When: Tuesday, November 18 to Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Weather permitting. 

Work Hours: 6:00AM to 6:00PM 

Work Location: Metro G Line crossing at Hayvenhurst Av 
 

What to Expect 

  • Closure of Lake Balboa Park entrance at Hayvenhurst Av and Victory Bl at Metro G Line Busway Crossing. 
  • Pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured along a route away from the closure. 
  • Testing activities will run 24 hours per day. 
  • Intermittent bells and horn sounds will occur as part of the required testing operations.  
Additional Information 
  • All work must receive necessary permits and approvals prior to work beginning. 
  • Access to emergency responders will be maintained. 
  • Access to driveways, residences & businesses will be maintained at all times unless notified in advance.  
  • Parking is restricted in posted areas, please follow the signage. 
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts. 
  • Construction is a dynamic process and work schedules and timelines are subject to change.
