Central Av to Studebaker Rd: Preconstruction Activities

Summary
Metro is advancing its plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105 by converting the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, or carpool lanes, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction.
Major construction for Segment 1 (Sepulveda Boulevard to Central Avenue) began in early 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in 2028.

Preconstruction activities for Segments 2 and 3 (Central Avenue to Studebaker Road) will begin in August 2025 and continue for approximately one month. These activities will include potholing—boring small holes through pavement to locate and identify underground utilities— in preparation for construction anticipated to begin in 2026.

Work Hours: Nightly, Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Location: I-105 freeway between Central Avenue and Studebaker Road

What to Expect
  • Intermittent freeway lane reductions and ramp closures will be necessary to safely perform this work.
  • Advance signage will be placed on the freeway to notify motorists of ramp closures.
  • Consecutive on- and off-ramps will not be closed at the same time.
  • Once an underground utility is located, work crews will fill and restore the pavement.

Noteworthy
  • Major construction for Segments 2 and 3 is anticipated to begin in 2026.
