Retaining Wall/Roadway Pavement Construction

Summary:Metro has a plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105, which includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction on the I-105. Major construction for the first phase of the project, Segment 1 between Sepulveda Bl and Central Av, started in early 2025 and is anticipated to continue for approximately three years.

As part of these improvements, work crews will construct several retaining walls and perform roadway pavement construction on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway at various locations along the corridor in Segment 1. These work activities are being performed to accommodate the new ExpressLanes and the improvements provided by the project.

Work to perform roadway pavement construction and the building of retaining walls includes excavation, grading, and drilling activities along the hillside slope at these locations.

Location: Westbound (WB) and Eastbound (EB) I-105 between Crenshaw Bl and Normandie Ave

Anticipated Construction Timeline:

  • Retaining wall and roadway pavement construction along WB and EB I-105 are anticipated to begin as early as Spring 2025 and will continue to the end of 2026.
  • Work activities on the WB and EB I-105 are expected to occur primarily on weekdays during daytime hours (6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.). However, intermittent nighttime work (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) may also be required to safely access locations along the corridor and complete associated work activities.

What to Expect:

  • Crews will access the work zone from the freeway.

  • While most of these work activities are expected to occur during daytime hours, intermittent nighttime activities may be necessary to safely perform activities for roadway pavement construction.
Noteworthy:
  • Work activity is subject to change based on weather conditions.

  • Construction is dynamic and schedules are subject to change.
