Extended Freeway Lane Closures – Sign Structure Installation

Summary: Metro has a plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105, which includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction on the I-105. Major construction for the first phase of the project, Segment 1 between Sepulveda Bl and Central Av, started in early 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in year 2028. 

As part of these improvements, work crews will implement extended lane closures on the weekend of September 11th to support activities along the I-105 freeway. This work is part of a series of overhead sign structure installations, which support the overall project improvements, including the implementation of the new ExpressLanes.

Work Hours: Closures on westbound I-105 from Wilmington Av to the I-110 connector beginning Friday, September 11, at 10pm through Sunday, September 13, at 10am.

Location/What to Expect:

Westbound I-105

Center lanes including the HOV and #1 lane will be closed on westbound I-105.
Other westbound travel lanes will remain open to traffic.
The Westbound Wilmington Av on-ramp will be closed. Please follow posted detour signage.
- Motorists are encouraged to use Imperial Hwy to Central Av to access I-105. The Vermont Av on-ramp will also be available as an alternate option for accessing I-105 from Imperial Hwy.
A Metro C Line bus bridge will be in place from September 4 at 4am through Sunday, September 13 at 9am from the Willowbrook/Rosa Park Station to the Harbor Fwy Station, with the Avalon Station closed.

Noteworthy:

Traffic control measures and advance signage will be in place to safely guide motorists through the work area.
