Preconstruction Activities – Central Av to Studebaker Rd 
 

Summary: 

As part of the I-105 improvements, work crews anticipate performing minor preconstruction activities for preparation purposes in advance of major construction for the Segments 2 and 3 areas beginning in late April through summer 2026. Construction for Segment 2, between Central Av and I-710, is anticipated to start in fall 2026, while Segment 3, between I-710 and Studebaker Rd, is expected to begin construction in mid-2026. Both Segments 2 and 3 are anticipated to be completed in 2029.

Work Hours:

  • Work crews will perform preparatory work activities at various locations along the I-105 corridor in the Segments 2 and 3 areas. 
  • 9pm to 5am, Monday through Friday, with intermittent daytime work, 9am and 3pm and Saturday and Sunday, 10 pm and 10am, as needed. 
Locations: 
  • The following locations will include intermittent closures, as consecutive ramps will not be closed at the same time:

    • I-105 freeway lanes and shoulder areas      
    • Garfield Av on- and off-ramps in all directions 
    • Paramount Bl on- and off ramps in all directions 
    • Lakewood Bl on- and off-ramps in all directions 
    • I-105 Long Beach Bl on- and off-ramps in all directions 
    • I-605 connectors in all directions 
    • Central Av on-and off-ramps in all directions 
    • Wilmington Av on- and off-ramps in all directions 
    • WB I-105 Imperial Hwy on- and off-ramps 

What to Expect:  

  • During the nighttime, intermittent freeway lane reductions and ramp closures are necessary to safely perform this work.  

  • Initial work activities include utility verification, field and subsurface investigation of existing  conditions, and the installation of traffic monitoring equipment.
