Extended Freeway Lane Closures – Sign Structure Installation

Summary: Metro has a plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105, which includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction on the I-105. Major construction for the first phase of the project, Segment 1 between Sepulveda Bl and Central Av, started in early 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in year 2028. 

As part of these improvements, work crews will implement extended lane closures throughout the weekend of August 1-2 to support activities along the I-105 freeway. This work is part of a series of overhead sign structure installations, which support the overall project improvements, including the implementation of the new ExpressLanes.

Work Hours: Friday, July 31, at 8pm to Monday, August 3, at 5am.

Eastbound I-105: Friday, July 31, at 8pm through Sunday, August 2, at 10am.
Westbound I-105: Sunday, August 2, at 4am through Monday, August 3, at 5am.

Location/What to Expect:

Eastbound I-105
- Two inside lanes (the HOV lane and #1 lane) will be closed on eastbound I-105 from the I-405 connector to Prairie Av.
- The northbound I-405 to eastbound I-105 connector will be closed from Friday at 7pm through Sunday at 10am:
- Remaining travel lanes will stay open.
- On Sunday, August 2, from 2am to 6am, only one travel lane will be open
- A Metro C Line bus bridge will be in place from Friday 8pm through Sunday at 2am from Crenshaw Station to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, with the Hawthorne/Lennox and Aviation/Imperial Stations closed.
Westbound I-105
- Two inside lanes (the HOC lane and #1 lane) will be closed on westbound I-105 from State St to Wilmington Av
- The westbound Imperial Hwy/Wilmington Av on-ramp will be closed.
- Remaining travel lanes will stay open.
- A Metro C Line bus bridge will be in place from Sunday at 4am through Monday at 2am from the Lynwood Station to the Harbor Station, with the Willowbrook/Rosa Park and Avalon Stations closed.

Noteworthy:

Traffic Control measures and advance signage will be in place to safely guide motorists through the work area.
