Magic Mountain Pkwy Bridge Construction 

Summary 

As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA USA, will be extending the overcrossing at Magic Mountain Pkwy to accommodate the new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. This I-5 bridge crosses over Magic Mountain Pkwy, located between The OId Rd and Tourney Rd. 

Construction will take place along the eastbound and westbound Magic Mountain Pkwy lanes. Activities will include k-rail installation, excavation, pile driving, falsework installation and removal, demolition, auger drilling for concrete foundations, form, rebar, and concrete work.  

At the completion of construction, improvements are expected to enhance traffic flow and safety, reduce congestion, and make commuting smoother. This bridge extension is anticipated to be completed in 2025.  

What to Expect & Traffic Control 

Nightly intermittent closures of Magic Mountain Pkwy, between The Old Rd and Tourney Rd, as well as nightly closures of northbound and southbound Magic Mountain Pkwy on- and off-ramps through December 2025. Eastbound and westbound shoulder widths will also be reduced. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted onto temporary sidewalk under the bridge.

  • Detour 1: Traveling northbound on The Old Rd, continue east on Rye Canyon Rd, proceed south on Newhall Ranch Rd, continue south on McBean Pkwy, proceed east or west on Magic Mountain Pkwy. 

  • Detour 2: Traveling southbound on The Old Rd, continue east on Valencia Bl, proceed north on Tourney Rd, continue east on Magic Mountain Pkwy. 

  • Detour 3: Traveling westbound on Magic Mountain Pkwy, continue south on Tourney Rd, proceed west on Valencia Bl, and continue north on The Old Rd.

  • EB Detour: Traveling eastbound on Magic Mountain Pkwy; south on Tourney Rd; west on Valencia Bl to northbound I-5 on-ramp. 

  • WB Detour: Traveling westbound on Magic Mountain Pkwy; north on The Old Rd; east on Hasley Canyon Rd to northbound I-5 on-ramp.

  • EB Detour: Traveling eastbound on Magic Mountain Pkwy; south on Tourney Rd; west on Valencia Bl to southbound I-5 on-ramp. 

  • WB Detour: Traveling westbound on Magic Mountain Pkwy; south on 
    The Old Rd; east on Valencia Bl to southbound I-5 on-ramp.

Essential Details 

• Work hours: Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed, between 6am to 3pm and 7pm to 6am behind k‐rail.

• Intermittent traffic control, including flagging, during off‐peak hours for construction access from The Old Rd to Tourney Rd. 

• The speed limit within the construction zone on The Old Rd, Magic Mountain Pkwy, and Tourney Rd is 45‐miles per hour.
