Sounds Wall/Roadway Pavement Construction

Summary: Metro has a plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105, which includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction on the I-105. Major construction for the first phase of the project, Segment 1 between Sepulveda Bl and Central Av, is anticipated for a duration of approximately three years.

As part of these improvements, crews will demolish and reconstruct several sound walls and perform roadway pavement construction along the corridor in Segment 1. Sound wall removal and reconstruction is necessary to allow for roadway pavement construction and the accommodation of the improvements provided by the I-105 ExpressLanes Project.

Location: Existing sound wall area along eastbound I-105 between Main St. and San Pedro St.

Anticipated Construction Timeline: Schedule is subject to change.

April 2025 Sound wall demolition. Anticipated work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 4:00pm.
Mid-April to Fall 2025 Vegetation and tree removal, area grading and foundation work for preparation of new sound wall construction. Anticipated work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 4:00pm.

What to Expect:

  • Crews will access the work zone from the freeway.

  • While most of these work activities are expected to occur during daytime hours, intermittent nighttime activities may be necessary to safely perform activities for roadway pavement construction.

  • Landscaping and trees will be restored after removal once overall construction is complete.
