Metro G Line Improvements Project

Project Website

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How will the gates improve safety?
A: The gates provide a more visible and physical indication that the busway crossing is closed when a G Line bus is approaching. They work together with traffic signals, warning devices, pavement markings and other intersection controls to help reduce the potential for conflicts between buses and people crossing the busway.

Q: Why are the bells and lights necessary on the gated intersections?
A: The audible and visual warning devices are first and foremost safety features. They are intended to alert motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians when a G Line bus is approaching, and the crossing is closing or closed.

We recognize that the G Line runs directly through established residential communities and that nearby residents may have concerns about new safety equipment. Metro will continue to consider site-specific conditions and applicable safety and operational requirements as the project advances.

Q: Will the bike path also be elevated at Van Nuys, Vesper and Sepulveda boulevards along with the grade separations?
A: No. The bike path will remain at street level.

Q: Will the Sepulveda Station be moved onto the Sepulveda grade separation?
A: No. The Sepulveda Station will remain at its original location.

Q: Trees were removed to accommodate construction. Are there plans to replace them?
A: A total of 342 trees were removed to accommodate grade separation and station construction between Sepulveda Station and Tyrone Avenue. The project includes a one-for-one replacement of trees removed from Metro right-of-way. Replacement trees on Metro property are also planned to be larger, more mature trees, approximately 36-inch box size compared with the more typical 24-inch box size.
