Southbound I-5 Traffic Shift and Closures

Summary

As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA USA, will maintain and modify freeway lane striping and k-rail (temporary concrete barriers) to support construction activity throughout the project corridor. Activities will include removal of existing striping, placement of new striping, and adjustments of concrete barriers.

At the completion of construction, improvements are expected to enhance traffic flow and safety, reduce congestion, and make commuting smoother.

What to Expect & Traffic Control

Prepare for southbound I-5 lane reconfigurations from Hasley Canyon Rd to Pico Canyon Rd/Lyons Av, including nightly intermittent closures of southbound on- and off-ramps beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2025 through Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Essential Details

Consecutive ramps in the same direction will not be closed at the same time. Signage is posted along the detour routes and at the preceding ramps and connectors.
The speed limit within construction work zones is changed to 55-miles per hour
No lane closures will be implemented during morning or evening peak traffic hours.
Traffic will be maintained in each direction.
