Sound Wall Construction – Calgrove Bl to Lyons Av

Summary 

As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA-USA, will be constructing four new soundwalls along the northbound I-5 between Calgrove Bl and Lyons Ave.

Construction will be taking place along the northbound I-5 between Calgrove Bl and Lyons Ave. Activities will include grading, excavation, auger drilling for concrete foundations, form, rebar, and concrete work, soil backfill, and masonry block and transparent panels installation.

At the completion of the project, freeway enhancements are expected to improve traffic flow, augment safety, reduce congestion, and make commuting smoother.

Sound wall construction at this location will continue through Summer 2026.

What to Expect & Traffic Control  

• Day work behind k-rail on northbound I-5 and The Old Road between Calgrove Bl and Lyons Ave

• Intermittent closures of the northbound Calgrove Bl on-ramp from 7pm to 6am.

• Night work utilizing southbound I-5 lane closures between Calgrove Bl and Lyons Av from 8pm to 6am.

Essential Details 

• Work hours: Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed, between 6am to 3pm behind k-rail, and 7pm to 6am.

• Speed limit within the construction zone is 55-mph.

• Intermittent traffic control during off-peak hours for construction access from I-5.
