Sound Wall Construction – Magic Mountain Pkwy to Valencia Bl

Summary 

As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA-USA, will be constructing four new soundwalls along the I-5 between Magic Mountain Pkwy and Calgrove. 

Construction will be taking place along the southbound I-5 between Magic Mountain Pkwy and Valencia Bl. Activities will include grading, excavation, auger drilling for concrete foundations, form, rebar, and concrete work, soil backfill, masonry block installation transparent panels installation. 

At the completion of the project, freeway enhancements are expected to improve traffic flow, augment safety, reduce congestion, and make commuting smoother. 

Sound wall construction at this location will continue through Winter 2025.    

What to Expect & Traffic Control  

  • Day work behind k-rail on southbound I-5 and The Old Road between Magic Mountain Pkwy and Valencia Bl 

  • Night work utilizing southbound I-5 lane closures between Magic Mountain Pkwy and Valencia Bl from 8pm to 6am. 

  • Intermittent closures of the southbound Magic Mountain Pkwy on-ramp and southbound Valencia Bl off-ramp from 7pm to 6am. 

Essential Details 

  • Work hours: Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed, between 6am to 3pm behind k-rail, and 7pm to 6am.  

  • Intermittent traffic control during off-peak hours for construction access from I-5. 

  • Speed limit within the construction zone is 55-mph.
