Sound Wall Construction – Villa Canyon Rd to Hasley Canyon Rd 

Summary 

As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA-USA, will be constructing four new soundwalls along the southbound I-5 between Villa Canyon Rd and Hasley Canyon Rd.  

Construction will take place along the southbound outside shoulder and along The Old Road. Activities will include grading, excavation, auger drilling for concrete foundations, form, rebar, and concrete work, soil backfill, and masonry block installation.  

Sound wall construction at this location will continue through December 2025.   

What to Expect & Traffic Control  

  • Day work behind k-rail along southbound I-5 and The Old Road  
  • Night work utilizing lane closures between 8pm and 6am.  
  • Intermittent closures of the southbound ramps at Haley Canyon Rd between 7pm and 6am. 
  • One-way traffic control with a flagger on The Old Rd, as needed. 
  • Access and intermittent traffic control during off-peak hours for construction access from The Old Road. 

Essential Details 

  • Work hours: Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed, from 7am to 4pm and 7pm to 6am. Crews will begin to mobilize at 6am.  
  • All lanes will reopen by before peak traffic hours each morning.  
  • No lane closures will be implemented during morning or evening peak traffic hours. 
  • Speed limit within the construction zone on the I-5 is 55-miles per hour. 
  • Day-to-day activities are provided in weekly construction alerts.

Access to emergency responders will be maintained. Construction is a dynamic process, it is subject to weather conditions, and information is subject to change, visit the project website for the most up to date information and a weekly listing of ramp closures scheduled.
