Street Closure and Life Storage Building Demolition

Summary: The Link Union Station (Link US) Project began demolition of the LifeStorage building located at 801 Eat Commercial St. This work will allow for the future construction of the bridge over the U.S. 101 freeway. When completed, the Project will provide new run-through tracks to improve and expand regional rail capacity at Los Angeles Union Station.

Description automatically generated Date and Work Hours: Demolition of the building began on Monday January 6, 2025 and will take approximately 6 months to be completed. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm, weather permitting. Select activities will require weekend shifts.

Locations: Northeast corner of Commercial St and Center St  

What to Expect:  
  • Pedestrian and local access will be maintained 

  • Two-way vehicular access will be maintained on Commercial St during the period of construction; 
  • Full closure of Aliso St from Old Center St to approximately 50' west of the alley & full closure of Old Center St from Aliso St to Commercial St. 

  • Spotters and flaggers will be present on Commercial St intermittently during loading and offloading of materials. 

Noteworthy 

  • Construction is dynamic and schedules are subject to change 

  • The Link US Project is coordinating with adjacent construction projects    

Persons Experiencing Homelessness  

If a person experiencing homelessness is encountered near a Metro construction site, Metro Construction Relations staff will distribute relevant construction information to the individual(s) located on City property. This information includes the time, date, location of construction activities, and anticipated impacts along with Metro Construction Relations contact information.
