Near Term Bus Lanes

Summary:

The Vermont Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project is part of Metro’s plan for better transit. This project will connect the communities along Vermont Av in the City of Los Angeles from 120th St to Sunset Bl through a new zero-emission BRT service while improving access to jobs, education, and other important destinations.

Beginning in May 2026, crews will begin preliminary activities on Vermont Av to prepare the roadway for construction. These activities will include locating and identifying underground utilities through the process of digging small, controlled, exploratory holes to physically locate and verify underground utilities (pipes, cables) before excavation. This notice describes the work on Vermont Av

When

Anticipated work to begin as early as the week of May 11, 2026, for approximately eight weeks.

Location
  • Vermont Av between Sunset Bl and 120th St
  • Lanes on Vermont Av may be reduced in both directions between 9am and 3pm.
  • Right and left turns will be maintained where possible with intermittent closures.
  • Portions of the sidewalk may be closed and detoured during the day
To view all preconstruction notices, please visit the Construction Notices page.

Work Hours
  • Street work will occur Monday through Friday, from 9am to 3:30p
What to Expect
  • Utility and geotechnical exploration consists of boring a hole through the roadway to locate underground utilities. Once an underground utility is located, the hole is filled back in. Noise and minimal vibration from drilling are expected.
  • Signs will direct traffic and pedestrians through open lanes, sidewalks, and crosswalks.
  • One lane will be open in each direction to traffic at all times. Work will not occur in same areas simultaneously and lanes will reopen at the end of each workday.
  • Access to sidewalks, crosswalks, and businesses will be maintained wherever possible. Temporary parking restrictions will be posted in the immediate work area.
Noteworthy
  • Construction is a dynamic process and work schedules are subject to change.
