Van Nuys Station Demolition: Bus and Bike Detours


Metro is making major improvements to the G Line to deliver a faster, more reliable, and safer transit experience. Upgrades include grade separations, advanced signal technology, enhancements to the bike path, and a new four-quadrant gate system.

Construction in progress: Van Nuys Station is closed during construction to allow Metro’s contractor, Valley Transit Partners (VTP), to continue building two new bridges at Van Nuys Boulevard and Vesper Avenue, as well as a new aerial station at Van Nuys Boulevard.

Construction Timeline

Start Date: February 21, 2025
Estimated Completion: Late 2027
Work Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM

  • Occasional weekends (7:00 AM to 6:00 PM) or overnight (9:00 PM to 7:00 AM), weather permitting and pending City of Los Angeles permit approvals

What You Need to Know

  • Van Nuys Station Closure: The station and parking lots are closed during construction.

  • Pedestrian Access: Safe pedestrian walkways are available during construction with intermittent closures (please follow detour signs).

  • Bus Detour: G Line buses have been rerouted along Oxnard Street between Sepulveda Blvd and Woodman Ave. A temporary bus stop is available at Oxnard St and Van Nuys Blvd.

  • Bike Path Detour: The G Line bike path has been detoured between Tyrone Ave and Sepulveda Blvd (please follow all directional signage).
  • Sepulveda Station Parking: Beginning February 2026, parking will be limited to the northern section of the lot. Park and Ride access from Haskell Av at Victory Bl will be closed to the public, diverting all access to Sepulveda Station via Erwin St.

Additional Information:
  • The G Line Busway will be closed to all traffic between Sepulveda Bl and Woodman Av.
  • Long-term temporary parking is available at G Line Sepulveda Station with access via Haskell Av or Erwin St.
  • All work must receive necessary permits and approvals prior to work beginning.
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts.
  • Construction is a dynamic process and work schedules and timelines are subject to change.
