Weldon Canyon Rd Bridge Construction

Summary 

As part of the I-5 North County Enhancements Project, Metro’s contractor OHLA-USA, will be constructing a new bridge at Weldon Canyon Rd to accommodate the new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes along the I-5.   

Construction will take place along the I-5 center median and outside shoulders at Weldon Canyon Rd between the Old Road and Coltrane Av. Activities include installation of fencing and decomposted granite path. This work is anticipated to take place through Fall 2025.

The new Weldon Canyon Rd bridge is substantially completed and opened to traffic.  

What to Expect & Traffic Control  

  • Day work behind k-rail at the I-5 center median and shoulders for the bridge abutments. 

  • Night work utilizing I-5 inside lane closure between 8pm and 6am.  

  • One-way traffic control with a flagger at Weldon Canyon Rd/The Old Rd and Weldon Canyon Rd/Coltrane Av, as needed. 

Essential Details 

  • Work hours: Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed, between 7am to 4pm and 7pm to 6am. Crews will begin to mobilize at 6am.  
  • Detour signage will be posted along route, if necessary. 
  • All lanes will reopen by before peak traffic hours each morning.  
  • No lane closures will be implemented during morning or evening peak traffic hours. 
  • Speed limit within construction zone will change to 55-miles per hour.
