Avalon Intersection Improvement

The contractor is preparing to demolish and reconstruct the intersection of Avalon Bl. and Slauson Av. as part of the Rail-to-Rail Active Transportation Corridor (ATC) Project. Stage 1A implementation was completed on July 20, 2024. Stage 2 was implemented on November 2, 2024.

Rail to Rail ATC Project brings improvements that better enable residents to bike or walk along the corridor, with improved access to transit stations. 

What:  The contractor will begin improvements to the street, sidewalk, crosswalk, traffic signals, and streetlights at the intersections adjacent to the new pedestrian and bike path. 

Where: At the intersection of Avalon Bl. and Slauson Av.  

When:  
  • July 20, 2024, for approximately five months. 
  • Stage 2 will be implemented on November 2, 2024.
  • Monday to Saturday 7am to 3:30pm, Night work as needed, Weather permitting.  

What to Expect 
Street closures will be in place 24/7 for approximately three months; the closures will be implemented in three consecutive stages.   
  • Stage 1A: Directional closure of northbound Avalon Blvd. from Slauson Av to 58th St
  • Stage 1B: Directional closure of southbound Avalon Bl. From Slauson Av to 58th St
  • Stage 2: Full closure of southside Avalon Bl. from Slauson Av to 57th Pl
Noteworthy  
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts. 
  • Construction night work, if needed, will be minimized and will be within allowable noise levels. 
  • All work will receive necessary permits and approvals from the City of Los Angeles before starting work. 
  • Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. 
  • Access to pedestrians will be maintained outside of the work area.  
  • Access to business/residential driveways within the work zone will be maintained. 
  • Dates, times, and duration of activities are subject to change.
