Alignment-Wide: Geotechnical Field Exploration

Southeast Gateway Line would connect Artesia, Cerritos, Bellflower, Paramount, Downey, South Gate, Cudahy, Bell, Huntington Park, Vernon, unincorporated Florence-Firestone, and downtown Los Angeles.

SUMMARY

Metro’s contractor shall continue geotechnical exploratory and sub-surface utility exploration (SUE) work that includes drilling, potholing, trenching, soil sampling and street restoration. This work includes drilling, jack hammering, and saw cutting and will require intermittent traffic lane reductions along the project alignment from Slauson/A Line in Los Angeles to Pioneer Bl/South St in Artesia and Cerritos. Work will be performed from January 2, 2025 through Fall 2025. This work is part of the preliminary design effort for the Southeast Gateway Line.
                                                                            

DATE AND WORK HOURS

  • Work anticipated to begin January 2, 2025, and continue through Fall 2025.
  • Work hours are typically Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Intermittent weekend work and night work may be necessary.

LOCATION

14.5-mile project alignment from Slauson/A Line in Los Angeles to Pioneer Bl/South St in Artesia and Cerritos

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Access to private driveways, residences, and businesses will always be maintained unless notified in advance. 
  • Bus stops may be temporarily relocated as necessary, please follow the signage.
  • Sound blankets will be used to minimize and reduce any noise coming from the worksite.
  • Dust control will be implemented as necessary using watering.
  • Lane reductions or closures on streets during work hours. Lanes will be restored daily upon work completion.
  • Parking is restricted in posted areas, please follow the signage. 
  • Surface condition will be restored (e.g., patching roads and pavement) after drilling is completed.
  • Traffic control officers and/or flaggers will be present as necessary to help with traffic control.

NOTEWORTHY

  • All work has received necessary permits and approvals.
  • Access to emergency responders will be maintained.
