Demolition and Reconstruction on I-105 over Dominguez Channel and Yukon Av

Summary

Metro has a plan to ease traffic and enhance safety on the I-105, which includes the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, or carpool lane, into two Metro ExpressLanes in each direction on the I-105. Major construction for the first phase of the project, Segment 1 between Sepulveda Bl and Central Av, started in early 2025 and is anticipated for a duration of approximately three years.

As part of the project, crews will perform demolition and reconstruction work on several bridges in the corridor to accommodate roadway pavement construction on the freeway for the new ExpressLanes.

Location: Eastbound and westbound I-105 bridge over the Dominguez Channel and Yukon Av
Anticipated Construction Timeline: Schedule is subject to change.
  • Construction will start at both locations as early as May and is anticipated to be complete by early 2026.
  • Daytime work (6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at the bridge locations will occur to demolish the current freeway bridge barriers, and perform other bridge reconstruction work such as drilling, excavation, and bridge foundation and structure activities.
  • Intermittent night work (as early as 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) will occur to erect support structures at the Dominguez Channel.
What to Expect:
  • Crews will access the work zones from the freeway and via area near the eastbound I-105 off-ramp to W 120th St
  • While most of these work activities are expected to occur during daytime hours, intermittent nighttime activities may be necessary to safely perform activities for roadway pavement construction.
Noteworthy:
  • Work activity is subject to change based on weather conditions.
  • Construction is dynamic and schedules are subject to change.
