Utility Investigation Work


Summary

As part of the upcoming work efforts for the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 Project, C Below, Metro’s contractor will perform advance utility work activities ahead of major construction, which is not anticipated to begin until 2029. The work will be conducted along the project alignment in East LA, Commerce and Montebello and will include an excavation process that involves digging small test holes to locate underground utility lines. 

Dates and Work Hours

  • Monday to Friday starting November 18, 2024 – Mid-February 2025 
  • East LA from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays 
  • City of Commerce from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am, and from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekends
  • City of Montebello from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on weekdays

The work will be performed in various locations in East LA, Commerce, and Montebello.

  • Atlantic Bl/Beverly Bl intersection: all lanes may be impacted intermittently. Potential lane closures are expected to last approximately 4 hours 
  • 3rd St/Woods Av intersection: all lanes may be impacted intermittently. Potential lane closures are expected to last approximately 2 hours 

Bus stop impacts: Some buses on 3rd St, Beverly Bl and Atlantic Bl may be rerouted. Signage will be posted. 


What to Expect

  • Pedestrian access will be maintained, but there may be temporary rerouting in certain areas.
  • Flaggers will be provided at various locations.
  • Equipment in the street, excavations, and repaving of roadway and sidewalk repair.
  • Parking is restricted in posted areas, please follow the signage.
  • Short-term traffic impacts due to lane reductions and closure of side streets.

Noteworthy

  • All work has received necessary permits and approvals.
  • Access to private driveways, residences, and businesses, will always be maintained unless notified in advance.
  • Access to emergency responders will be maintained during construction.
  • Construction is a dynamic process and work schedules and timelines are subject to change.
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts to the community.
  • The road will be reopened to vehicular traffic and parking daily after work hours.
  • Detours will be provided as necessary.
