Advanced Utility Work: Blythe St Closure

The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Bl, from the Metro G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station to Van Nuys Bl and San Fernando Rd. 


SUMMARY

As part of the ongoing advanced utility work for the ESFV LRT Project, Metro’s contractor, San Fernando Transit Constructors (SFTC), will conduct utility installation work on Blythe St, just west of Van Nuys Bl. This work will involve various traffic control setups, including a full street closure of Blythe St, a westbound directional street closure on Blythe St, and work in the intersection. The scope of work performed will include traffic control implementation, pothole investigation, demolition, trench excavation, shoring and backfill, and concrete and paving work.  

DATE AND WORK HOURS 

Beginning October 20, 2025, through Winter 2026, Monday to Saturday. Night work from 8:00PM to 6:00AM, weather permitting.

LOCATION 

On Blythe St, just west of Van Nuys Bl. Please refer to the graphics below for the work area and suggested alternate route for local access during the closure.

WHAT TO EXPECT 

  • Full street closure of Blythe St, just west of Van Nuys Bl. No through traffic available on Blythe St during the closure. 
  • Westbound directional street closure of Blythe St, just west of Van Nuys Bl.  
  • Van Nuys Bl will remain open with lane restrictions and left-turn pocket closures. 
  • The street will be fully reopened daily for vehicular traffic and parking after the work shift. 
  • Flaggers will be provided at various locations to direct traffic and pedestrians if access is restricted. 
  • Bus stops may be temporarily relocated as necessary; please follow the signage. 
  • Parking is restricted in posted areas; please follow the signage. 

NOTEWORTHY 

  • Access to private driveways, residences, and businesses will always be maintained unless notified in advance. If multiple driveways are affected, they will not be closed simultaneously. 
  • Access to emergency responders will be maintained. 
  • Construction is a dynamic process, and work schedules and timelines are subject to change. 
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts.
