East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT)

Project Website | Active Work Notices
The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Bl, from the Metro G Line Van Nuys Station to San Fernando Rd.

SUMMARY

Metro’s contractor has been relocating utilities along Van Nuys Bl, between Sherman Wy and Arminta St, and on nearby side streets. The contractor has completed the work behind the K-rail and will now remove those barriers, which will require weekend directional street closures. K-rail removal will include traffic control setup, grinding and restriping of the street, and street restoration to the conditions that existed before the installation of the barrier on the east side of the street, except in the area between Valerio St and Covello St. This work will require a weekend directional street closure on Van Nuys Bl, between Vanowen St to Arminta St, to remove the K-rail concrete barriers and restore the roadway. Only one side of the street will be closed at a time.

Following this work, crews will be working on the replacement of the existing box culvert over the Pacoima Wash, so that it withstands the weight of the future train tracks. The work at the Pacoima Wash will require installation of k-rail at the center of the street, which will be completed during the removal of the K-rail from the east side of the street on the above-mentioned weekend closures. Once the new K-rail is set, Van Nuys Bl between Valerio St and Covello St will be reduced to one lane in each direction for a period of approximately six months. There will be various traffic control phases for the work in this area.
