The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Bl, from the Metro G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station to San Fernando Rd.

SUMMARY

Metro’s contractor continues with utility installations on the east side of Sherman Wy near the intersection of Van Nuys Bl requiring a full street closure on the east side and other restrictions at the intersection. The work includes various traffic control implementations, pothole investigation, demolition, trench excavation, installation of conduit, duct banks, vaults, shoring and backfill, concrete and paving work. Utility work continues at the intersection through Spring of 2026. Work activities will occur Monday to Sunday, from 9pm to 6am, and on weekends from 6am to 9pm, as necessary.

There may be instances where vehicles will be forced to make a right turn for southbound traffic on Van Nuys Bl due to the closure at the intersection with Sherman Wy. When the southbound closure at Sherman Wy and Van Nuys Bl are implemented, work requires lane restrictions on eastbound and westbound Sherman Wy, and northbound Van Nuys Bl closure, with vehicles detoured to Sherman Wy, Sepulveda Bl, Vanowen St, and onto Van Nuys Bl.

DATE AND WORK HOURS

December 15, 2025, to Spring 2026, weather permitting.

Monday to Friday, 9pm to 6am, and weekends 6am to 9pm and 9pm to 6am, as necessary.

LOCATION

East side of Sherman Wy near the intersection with Van Nuys Bl.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Sherman Wy will be restricted to the east side of the street. The street will reopen to vehicular traffic daily after each work shift. There will be some restrictions on Van Nuys Bl, including right- and left-turn pockets. Multiple traffic control configurations will be utilized at the intersection.
Additional restrictions may be necessary at the intersection of Van Nuys Bl and Sherman Wy, including a detour.
The left turn pockets at the intersection will be restricted. Please follow the traffic signage.
Access to private driveways, residences, and businesses will always be maintained unless notified in advance.
Flaggers will be provided at various locations to direct traffic and provide safe pedestrians access.
Parking is restricted in posted areas; please follow the signage.
Bus stops will be temporarily relocated as necessary; please follow signage for the relocation information.

NOTEWORTHY

Access to emergency responders will be maintained.
Construction is a dynamic process and work schedules and timelines are subject to change.
Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impact
