Covello St Full Closure: Advanced Utility Work
 

SUMMARY
Metro’s contractor, San Fernando Transit Constructors (SFTC), will conduct utility installation work on Covello St, just east of Van Nuys Bl. This work will require a full street closure of Covello St. Work activities will include traffic control setup, pothole investigation, demolition, trench excavation, installation of conduits, duct banks, and vaults, shoring and backfill, and concrete and paving work.

The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Bl, from the Metro G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station to Van Nuys Bl and San Fernando Rd.
DATE AND WORK HOURS
November 15, 2025, through Winter 2026, Monday to Saturday. Night work from 8:00PM to 6:00AM, weather permitting.

WHAT TO EXPECT

 
  • Covello St, just east of Van Nuys Bl, will be fully closed. No through traffic available on Covello St during the closure.
  • Van Nuys Bl will remain open with lane restrictions and K-rail.
  • The street will be reopened daily to vehicular traffic after each work shift.
  • Sidewalks and crosswalks in this area may be closed intermittently, and pedestrians will be redirected to the opposite side of the street. Please follow the signage.
  • Parking is restricted in posted areas; please follow the signage.
  • Additional closures of side streets may occur at the same time as this closure

  • Access to private driveways, residences, and businesses will always be maintained unless notified in advance.
  • Access to emergency responders will be maintained.
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts.
  • Construction is a dynamic process, and work schedules and timelines are subject to change.
