Van Nuys Bl between Valerio St and Arminta St: Utility Relocation and K-rail Installation Work

The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Bl, from the Metro G Line Van Nuys Station to Van Nuys Bl and San Fernando Rd. 

SUMMARY

Metro’s contractor is performing utility installations along Van Nuys Bl between Gault St and Arminta St. K-rail (concrete barriers) has already been installed on the east side of Van Nuys Bl between Gault St and Valerio St. The new work will require extending the K-rail on Van Nuys Bl between Valerio St and Arminta St. To install the k-rail, Van Nuys Bl will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Valerio St and Arminta St from Friday, October 10, 2025, at 8pm through Monday, October 13, 2025, at 6am.  

The weekend work includes removing existing roadway striping, adjusting traffic control, removing parking, and installing additional K-rail along the east side of the street. Intermittent closures of driveways will occur during the traffic lane realignment work. Two traffic lanes in each direction will remain open after the K-rail is installed. After the weekend work, utility installation work hours will vary with daytime and nighttime shifts inside the K-rail, Saturday work on days or nights on side streets, and work outside the k-rail taking place at night or on off peak hours (9am to 3:30pm) as permitted. Upon completion of the utility work, the street and sidewalks will be restored.
