Advanced Utility Work: Van Nuys Bl from Nordhoff St to Woodman Av

The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Bl, from the Metro G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station to Van Nuys Bl and San Fernando Rd.

SUMMARY
As part of the advanced utility work for the ESFV LRT Project, Metro’s contractor, San Fernando Transit Constructors (SFTC), will conduct utility relocation along Van Nuys Bl, between Vincennes St and Plummer St as well as on nearby side streets. This work includes installing K-rail - concrete barriers that separate the work zone from adjacent traffic lanes, along southbound Van Nuys Bl. These barriers will remain in place for the full duration of the work (refer to the graphic below). Activities will include utility installation operations such as duct bank and vault installations, traffic control, concrete, and paving work.

This work will also require a one-time weekend directional street closure on Van Nuys Bl between Nordhoff St and Woodman Av to install K-rail and re-stripe the roadway. During the closure, only one side of the street will be closed at a time. Once this phase is completed, the street will fully reopen with two lanes of traffic maintained in each direction. A detour will be in place to guide traffic (see the graphic below).
            
DATE AND WORK HOURS

Utility Work on Van Nuys Bl between Vincennes St and Plummer St and side streets:

• February 21, 2025 to Fall 2025, Monday to Saturday. Day shifts behind K-rail will be from 6:00AM to 8:00PM, and night shifts from 8:00PM to 6:00AM, weather permitting.  

• Friday, February 21, 2025 beginning at 6:00PM through Sunday, February 23, 2025 ending at 6:00AM.

• Van Nuys Bl will remain open with lane restrictions and long-term K-rail.
• The road will be fully reopened to vehicular traffic daily outside of work hours, unless behind K-Rail.
• Some side streets will be impacted during nighttime directional closures.
• Flaggers will be provided at various locations to direct traffic and pedestrians if access is restricted.
• Parking is restricted in posted areas, please follow the signage.
• Bus stops may be temporarily relocated as necessary, please follow the signage.
• The bike lane will merge with the traffic lane, and bicyclists and vehicles will share the road.
• Full street nightly closure of Gledhill St, just west of Van Nuys Blvd, for approximately two weeks.

• Metro’s small business mitigation programs may assist small businesses impacted by construction, for more information, please contact the project.
• Access to emergency responders will be maintained.
• Construction is a dynamic process and work schedules and timelines are subject to change.
• Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts.
