The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit (ESFV LRT) Project will improve connections and access to crucial destinations while connecting transit users to the growing network in the San Fernando Valley. The Southern Segment of the project includes a 6.7-mile at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Blvd, from the Metro G Line (Orange) Van Nuys Station to Van Nuys Blvd and San Fernando Rd.

SUMMARY

Metro’s contractor, San Fernando Transit Constructors (SFTC), will conduct utility installation and telecommunication relocation work on Van Nuys Bl, between Oxnard St and Valerio St. This work will require lane reductions along Van Nuys Bl and temporary left-turn restrictions; however, Van Nuys Bl will remain open to traffic in both directions throughout construction. Work activities will also require partial and/or full street closures of side streets (listed under “Locations”). Some side street closures will occur at the same time; however the east and west side of each street will not be closed at the same time.

DATE AND WORK HOURS

June 22, 2026, through early Spring 2027. Work will take place nightly from 8pm to 6am, Monday through Friday. Weather permitting.

Calvert St (east of Van Nuys Bl): July 6, 2026 through July 27, 2026
Friar St (east and west sides): July 6, 2026 through August 14, 2026
Vanowen St (east and west sides): July 24, 2026 through September 11, 2026
Calvert St (west of Van Nuys Bl): July 30, 2026 through August 18, 2026

Future Street Closures (Date to be determined):

Aetna St, Delano St, Erwin St, Sylvan St, Victory Bl, Hamlin St,
Vanowen St, Hartland St, Vose St, Sherman Way, Wyandotte St, and Valerio St

WHAT TO EXPECT

Van Nuys Bl will remain open in both directions with lane reductions and left turn restrictions.
Access to private driveways, residences, and businesses will always be maintained unless notified in advance.
Flaggers will be provided at various locations to direct traffic and pedestrians if access is restricted.
Parking is restricted in posted areas. Please follow all posted signage, as vehicles may be cited or towed.
Bus stops will be temporarily relocated as necessary, please follow the signage.
The bike lane will be intermittently closed during construction, please follow the signage.
Crosswalks in this area may be temporarily closed, and pedestrians will be detoured to get around the closure, please follow the signage.
