Westwood/VA Station: Overview of Construction Impacts

Summary 

Construction of the Westwood/VA Hospital Station continues. This work includes excavation and pedestrian bridge erection, adding escalators to the North Plaza—as well as temporary deck panel removal, and traffic lane restoration. This work requires lane and sidewalk closures around the intersection of Bonsall Av and Wilshire Bl. Access to the West Los Angeles VA campus will be maintained through the south gate on Sawtelle Bl and Ohio Av

Schedule

• Estimated Completion: Work is estimated to be complete by 12.31.26

• Monday to Friday: 6am to 6pm (work hours may vary occasionally)
• Occasional weekend work: 7am to 6 pm or overnight (7pm to 6am)

Traffic Control

• Intermittent lane restrictions on Bonsall Av.
• Alternating northbound or southbound Bonsall Av lane closures between Dowlen Dr and eastbound ramps at Wilshire Bl (closure will be marked by traffic cones).
• Intermittent closure of the eastbound Bonsall Av onramp to Wilshire Bl (cone closure).
• Intermittent closure of the westbound offramp to Bonsall Av (cone closure).
• Intermittent night closures of the I-405 freeway on and off ramps to eastbound Wilshire Bl.
• On and off ramps on Wilshire Bl for the VA campus will have intermittent lane reductions.
• Bus stops on Wilshire Bl may be temporarily relocated.
• Intermittent closure of the eastbound Wilshire Bl bus lane (cone closure).
• Traffic to the West Los Angeles VA Hospital north and south campus will be maintained.
• Flaggers will be present as needed to facilitate traffic flow.

Pedestrian and Business Access

• Sidewalk closures may be in place in the immediate work area. Pedestrians should follow posted detour signage. Traffic to the West Los Angeles VA Hospital north and south campus will be maintained

• All work has received necessary permits and approvals.
• Access for emergency responders will be maintained at all times.
• Parking restrictions will be enforced in the work zone.
